RHA Swag Designs
Branding, Illustration
About The Project
The Resident Hall Association (RHA) is the second largest student organization on campus at the University of Georgia (UGA). In late 2021 the staff advisor for the RHA contacted me about creating some shirt designs to be used as swag during events put on by the Association during the school year.
Shirt Designs
The RHA wanted to incorporate the phrase "It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog", or "It's a Great Day to be a Dawg". They also wanted the designs to be able to go on shirts that were black, white, or red in color. Obviously the design had to evoke the spirit of the University, but it could not include any official UGA branding, logos, or symbols. This was the trickiest part of the project for me.
Ultimately I delivered six different shirt designs. Two were variations on an idea using the Chapel Bell, a historic landmark on the UGA campus. The bell itself was created in 1835, and came to campus in the early 1900’s. Today, the bell is rung in celebration of various events, from sports victories to student graduations. I chose to incorporate this iconic campus element as it is near and dear to many students, and it is one of my personal favorite parts about campus. Two more designs incorporate an outline of the state of Georgia, as the University has so much state pride. The other two designs include a more text-based take on the phrase, as well as a Bulldog pennant.
Uses
So far, the RHA has used three of the six designs for various swag items. The bell design with the Dawg was used for a black crewneck sweatshirt, the wavy Georgia state outline was used for a black t-shirt, and the other Georgia state outline was used on a small bulldog stuffed animal. This project was informative and allowed me to experience working within and around brand guidelines for a major university.
